Dignity is a responsibility.
Consent, confidentiality, child protection and safe participation guide how SHINE develops its work.
Participation should never come at the cost of safety.
The people who share knowledge, time or personal experience retain their dignity and their choices. These commitments guide program and editorial development.
Consent
Explain the purpose, use of information, choices and foreseeable risks in an understandable way. Participation must be voluntary and separate from access to support.
Confidentiality
Collect only what is necessary. Sensitive identities, documents and precise private locations belong outside public pages and general correspondence.
Child Protection
Children’s best interests come first. Age-appropriate assent, safe guardian consent and a safeguarding review must guide any involvement in stories or activities.
Survivor Dignity
Respect the person’s agency, preferred language and choice about visibility. Avoid pressure, graphic framing or demands to repeat distressing experiences.
Responsible Storytelling
Informed consent, factual care and privacy must shape the full editorial process, including publication and the limits of removing distributed material.
Safe Participation
Use defined roles, appropriate training and clear responsibilities. Volunteers should not enter hazardous or specialized work without verified qualifications and authorization.
Raising a Concern
Email help@shinenepal.org with a general outline and a safe way to contact you. Ask about the appropriate channel before sharing personal case details. Published response hours and a dedicated complaints procedure remain part of the policy work in preparation.
Urgent safety concerns
Contact official emergency services directly if someone is in immediate danger. This website and the concern email are not emergency dispatch services.
Official emergency guidanceStart with a safe, general conversation.
You do not need to send a survivor’s identity or personal documents to ask about safeguarding.
